The Carrot To-Do app, a virtual pet that is designed to help manage daily tasks welcomes the user with the message that says “Greetings, lazy human, I’m Carrot, your new task mistress.” The virtual task mistress rewards its owner with points, entertains with jokes and invents new assignments for completing the user’s to-do list. It also promotes the mistress to the next level once the list is complete with the messages such as: “The more you use me the better the task master I become.” After five tasks, it offers the owner a reward in the form of advice: “prioritize tasks to keep your puny from getting overwhelmed” or a fortune cookie with the message: "You will be killed by trying to survive a nuclear blast in a fridge.” Once in awhile it asks the user to tap the screen to send a kiss or click a button “I love Carrot.” ![]() ![]() ![]() The app is very easy to use. The user needs to pull down the screen to add a new task and swipe it from left to right to delete it. Just like any pet, Carrot gets upset, hungry and happy. After the owner finishes several tasks - the app offers a kitten as a gift and helps the owner to pick a name for it. Later, the kitten gets hungry and to feed him, the owner needs to earn extra points to “fill kitten’s tammy.” The downside of the app is the annoying way it promote itself with. It offers the user to like the app on Facebook or rate in the Apples Store. Once you enter a task such as "gym or diet," it offers to download a weight-loss app. It also offers you to claim the reward and go through an endless list of awards messages, which can be time consuming. The app’s screen fits only six tasks and one needs to scroll down to see the rest of the list. There is no search box and the items might easily be lost. When I read about the app, I decided that it’s definitely something that is missing on my phone as it’s inventors claimed to make “a boring task fun,” but after I searched the Google Play to download the app for my Android phone and didn’t find it. I ended up installing it on my IPad. After spending some time with the app, I realized the app keeps me busy by not only completing my tasks but also handling my virtual task mistress. |
